phoenixes are not gentle creatures
she is a girl made of fire, boy / you must watch out for the witch / she will burn you down / without meaning to / she will convince you / that she is moon-rock: / gentle, glowing, magic / but her insides are lined with flame / & if you are too much / kindling / you will burn / like the witch she is / & when you have gone / she will take your ashes / smear them on her face / & go dark / until she can rise again
Danielle Perry is a small, fierce elf in love with the moon. She graduated with a degree in English Lit and Religious Studies from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. She now lives in Portland, OR, but will always be an East Coaster at heart. Her work has been published in The Toast, FLAPPERHOUSE, and Potluck Magazine, among others. Her chapbook Phases (2015) was published by Sad Spell Press. She spends probably too much time on Twitter (@jekyllian).
