The Wheel of Fortune
Landslide – Stevie Nicks
This song, about confronting and accepting change, feel today like the Wheel of Fortune – that feeling of knowing that time is unstoppable, challenges come, times are good and bad…and how you have to look that all in the face and keep on going.
I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Till the landslide brought me downOh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older and I’m getting older tooOh, I’m getting older too
Awh, take my love, take it down
Awh, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide bring it downAnd if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide bring it down
Oh, the landslide bring it down

Iโm a 30-something writer, artist, tarot reader, and perpetual explorer of the space between thought, feeling, and action.
I believe that spirituality and ritual are for everybody. Iโm about the journey, in all of its messy, non-linear, chaotic iterations. I am excited by anticapitalist business and living with my whole entire self present. I use tarot cards to bring forth hidden truth, and ritual to affirm my commitment, over and over, to my ever-shifting path.
What a beautiful song! It is one of my favourites from Fleetwood Mac and one that has been haunting me through several periods of change.
To me, it is comforting to see the Wheel of Fortune, though – I’ve been stuck in a rut for quite some time now and hopefully this landslide will bring me up, not down ๐
Thank you .. just well , uncanny , the timing of this post for me personally is spot on & this is spooky because I was looking at some Stevie Nicks songs the other day, having a need to hear her , as she takes me waaay back to my young.. ( and wilder ) days and somehow she has that Witchy healing feel to her in her voice and songs that fit this time of year, it is that time of reflection for me leading up to Samhain I love it… yet… It carries a yearning . I am missing my Mother, and all those gone before and that deep longing for a better world.. And knowing I have some mountains to climb yet to achieve a dream . So this is lovely and synchronistic. Thank you again .
Thank you for sharing this Selkie. Yeah, her voice *is* healing somehow, I really find that. I’ve been a Fleetwood Mac fan for years but only recently got into Stevie Nicks herself, after so so many different people telling me I should. Hope you have a wonderful Samhain and feel you mum close. And good luck with your own mountains!
Great song! One of my favorites from Fleetwood Mac. But when I think about the Wheel of Fortune, the first on my mind is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M9muYyYxhI
YES! Awesome. I haven’t heard that for years ๐
I first came across these lyrics in a Mademoiselle magazine interview with Stevie Nicks years ago, and when I read “Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?” I knew I had to find this song and listen to it. And now I play this on my birthday every year. Which is also, coincidentally, Stevie Nicks’ birthday. ๐
Aw, beautiful Lauren! It was exactly that verse that grabbed me, too. What a cool birthday partner to have!!
