love poem no. 2013

i have always been the moon, an expert in orbiting. i never had enough of my own gravity. until you. you pulled me in, you told me we were made of the same stuff. this was not true, but i liked hearing it. and how could you know? i was full, then, but i am always changing, always circling back. i lessened and this was hard, for you. my light is what fascinated you. i became a sliver of myself and you realized i was getting further from you every day. how distant are we, now? i see you, and your bustling continents, and wonder. when i am full once more, what will you do then?
